INVENTORY HIGHLIGHTS

A wicker web encases this rare gasogene. It was designed to keep the glass spheres in place while under pressure. It was also a safety feature as these predecessors of the seltzer bottle frequently cracked or exploded. All of the early models were produced in Paris.

The dark lantern was standard equipment for London police officers and aided Holmes in his nocturnal investigations. Many models were produced by the Deitz Company of New York and were available for export. Although the laterns
were effective early flashlights, then generated both excessive heat and smoke.
