INVENTORY HIGHLIGHTS

The tea set is of an Eastlake Victorian design. A typical service of the period included separate pots for tea and coffee as well as sugar, milk and a waste or spoon bowl. A matching tray often completed the set. The cutlery handles are mother of pearl, each engraved with an incredible "SH" monogram! I discovered the two knives and their matching forks while perusing a flea market in London. The dealer from whom I purchased them had no idea of their significance!

  • TEA SET "Mrs. Hudson entered with the tea
    and coffee" (NAVA)
  • COVERED DISH Curiously, a covered dish
in England is round to fit on a dinner plate.
In the U.S. a covered dish refers to a covered
casserole dish and is often oval shaped. (NAVA)
  • BUTTER DISH (MUSG)
